چکیده

We studied the energy distributions of electrons emitted in the interaction of slow Na ions with polycrystalline Al surfaces. To study sub-threshold plasmon excitation we performed measurements as a function of emission angle which showed the excitation of bulk plasmons, confirming the kinetic nature of the excitation process. Electron spectra show narrow transition lines due to Auger decay in vacuum of sodium projectiles excited in the 2p-shell by electron promotion in collisions with Al target atoms. Several previously unidentified transition lines could be attributed to the autoionization of doubly excited projectiles. 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The role of atomic collisions in kinetic electron emission from Al surfaces by slow ions

We measured energy distributions of electrons emitted in the interaction of slow Kr and Na with Al surfaces. The data allow to correlate emission intensities with spectral signatures of electron excitation processes. Our results indicate that electron promotion processes leading to the excitation of Al target atoms plays the dominating role in kinetic electron emission from Al surfaces by slow ...

Bulk and surface plasmon excitation in the interaction of Heþ with Mg surfaces

We report on studies of plasmon excitation in Mg under the impact of slow Heþ ions in the incident energy range 0.1–0.5 keV. Consistent with studies on Al surfaces, a transition from surface to bulk plasmon excitation occurs as the energy of the ion is increased. Previous methods in the literature to obtain information about yields of electron emission from plasmon decay are discussed. A new da...

Plasmon-assisted electron emission from Al and Mg surfaces by slow ions.

We report energy distributions of electrons emitted from Al and Mg surfaces bombarded by 30– 4500 eV He, Ne, and Ar ions, which contain structure consistent with the decay of surface and bulk plasmons. We propose that plasmon excitation is due to the sudden change of the surface dipole (incident ion plus image charge) resulting from the disappearance of the image charge and appearance of a hole...

Behenic Acid Monolayer and Bilayer Assemblies- A Study of Concanavalin A (Con A) Adsorption and its Interaction with Dextran Using Surface Plasmon Resonance Spectroscopy and Microscopy

Deposition of behenic acid (B.A) mono and bilayers onto gold coated surfaces was performed by Langmuir-Blodget dip-casting technique. Surface Plasmon resonance (SPR) and ellipsometry methods were employed for investigation of the monolayer and bilayer films. The adsorption of the biologically important molecule Concanavalin A (Con A) from bulk solution to these monolayers and bilayers as we...

Mechanisms for ion-induced plasmon excitation in metals

We have studied the excitation of plasmons produced by 100 eV He‡, Ne‡ and Ar‡and by 5±100 keV H‡ and He‡ projectiles in Al and Mg through the observation of electrons from plasmon decay, ejected from clean and cesiated surfaces. At low velocities, plasmon excitation occurs only for ions of high potential energy and is independent of velocity. The e€ect of Cs adsorption on this potential plasmo...
